Character Selfie

Select a character from one of your favorite books.

Create a costume out of anything you have around the house. It can be your own interpretation of the character, not something you’ve seen on a screen. Don’t be afraid to get creative!

Snap a photo of yourself in your costume and post to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the hashtag #FamilyReadathon! Be sure to tag BookSpring and the Library Foundation!

Book Spine Poetry

First, you’ll go on a hunt for language by finding books from around your house or from your local library.

Next, write down any titles that look interesting to you. As you write down the titles, you might notice that some of the titles seem to go together or begin to tell a story.

Once you’ve selected some

Family Readathon Books

titles that go together well, take those books and begin stacking them so that the book spines can be read from top to bottom. You can change the order as you go in order to find a flow that works best for your poem. If there’s a missing idea or “line,” you might want to go back to a shelf to look for another title that would be the perfect fit.

Snap a photo of your Book Spine Poetry Creation and post to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the hashtag #FamilyReadathon! Be sure to tag BookSpring and the Library Foundation!

Book Cover Redesign

Select one of your favorite books.

Create a new book cover out of paper and anything you have around the house. It can be your own interpretation of what you think the book cover to your book should look like! The more creative the better!

Fantasy Map

Select a setting from one of your favorite books. It can be a castle, a school, a magical forest, or any place you can find in the book!

Create a map of that setting out of anything you have around the house (colors, toys, paper, etc). It can be your own interpretation of the setting and you can get as creative as you’d like!

Snap a photo of your map with the book and post to Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter using the hashtag #FamilyReadathon! Be sure to tag BookSpring and the Library Foundation!
